Addiction Solitaire cards.

While fun and engaging, Addiction Solitaire is not for beginners. If you want to win this challenging game, read on for our top Addiction Solitaire strategy. Let’s start with a quick recap of how Addiction Solitaire is played.

Addiction Solitaire Rules

The game starts with a single deck of cards dealt into 13 rows, facing up. The aces of each suit are removed to free up four spaces, which will be used to order cards into complete suits. Because there is no need to draw or discard, there is no stock or waste pile in this game.

The goal of the game is to create order from chaos. Strategize with the blank spaces to move cards around, reorganizing them by suit and ascending numerical order from 2 to the King. A 10–minute timer makes the game more challenging.

To win at Addiction Solitaire, follow these rules:

  • A traveling card can go to a target space under two conditions:

1: The card preceding the target space must be the same suit as the traveling card.

2: The traveling card must have an ascending numerical value relative to the card preceding the target space.

  • Move a 2 of any suit to the beginning of any row. Once placed, the card determines the suit of the cards after it.
  • When playing online, you can reshuffle the cards up to three times. Clicking the ‘reshuffle’ button causes the game to re-deal the cards randomly, except for any cards that are already in their correct places.
  • The game ends when a player successfully orders cards into four rows of suits before the 10-minute timer runs down. If the player fails to do both, the game ends in a loss.

Now that we have reviewed the rules of Addiction Solitaire, let’s dive into the winning Addiction Solitaire strategy.

Addiction Solitaire Strategy

The following strategies help you make the most of your time:

Scan the Rows

After the layout is prepared, assess. Scan the rows to identify cards that are correctly placed and to locate key cards to get things moving:

  • 2-cards. Should a 2 exist in the first space of a row, it stays there to establish the suit for that row. Otherwise, note the location of the 2s and start planning to get them into the beginning spaces of each row.
  • Note the cards that already exist in their correct spots, like a 3-card in the 2nd column or an 8-card in the 7th column.

This first assessment reduces the number of maneuvers you have to execute.

Move Quickly…

A 10-minute timer makes every second precious in Addiction Solitaire, so you’ll need to think and move quickly. Here are a few things to help you accomplish that:

  • You will not run out of moves. The only way you can run out of moves in Addiction Solitaire is if the four Kings occupy the slots next to the blank spaces. Even in this case, you can reshuffle to re-deal the cards.
  • The game shows playable moves automatically. For the sake of time, online games show which cards can be moved into blank spaces without the need to press the ‘hint’ button.
  • Let instinct lead. With no time to analyze the tableau at leisure, let your instinct guide you on which are the best moves to play.

…But Don’t Rush

Short-term gain can be disastrous for your long-term strategy. A hastily built-up suit may impact the ability to complete other rows, resulting in the loss of the game.

Balancing quick thinking and careful consideration is one of the challenges that make the game exciting.

Keep Track of Key Cards

Key cards include:

Twos determine the rest of the cards that follow after it, so choose and place them carefully.

Kings lock available spaces next to them since they belong to the end of the rows.

Cards that complete suits. Assess their location and try to strategize how to move them into their correct place.

Manage Blank Spaces

Maneuvering cards in Addiction Solitaire is restricted to only four free spaces. Avoid using these spaces to house cards that don’t help your overall strategy. Instead, use them to free up key cards and build suits rather than making a move for its own sake.
